Julia Krahn. Ursprung & Untergang
Al crepuscolo, una favola!
URSPRUNG & UNTERGANG is a reflection on origin and ending, on the ceaseless movement that gives rise to life and reabsorbs it. It is a work that speaks of matter before it becomes an individual, and of matter that, once its journey is complete, returns to matter. It speaks of that undifferentiated substance from which we emerge and to which we inevitably return.
It is no surprise that Julia Krahn found in the cemetery of the Poor Clares and the putridaria a place capable of embracing this inquiry. Here, death was never concealed. It was observed, contemplated and lived through. Here, the body undertook its final journey, slowly returning to its material essence, while that which had made it unique and unrepeatable already belonged to another dimension.
And yet URSPRUNG & UNTERGANG is not a work about death. It is a work about transformation. About the continuous process of birth and death that accompanies us at every moment. About the mystery that has inhabited us since our very first breath.
For the Foundation, this project also marks an important step. Our work has always primarily engaged with painting, sculpture, architecture, and the many material forms of art. With URSPRUNG & UNTERGANG, we enter the realm of video installation for the first time, embracing a medium that has not previously formed part of our journey, yet one that feels deeply aligned with our commitment to continual exploration, experimentation and self-reflection.
