Opening Times

Open 7 days a week*, all year, from 9 a.m. until sunset.
The last ticket will be issued AN HOUR AND A HALF BEFORE closing.

Closing time (at sunset) varies according to the time of year**.
Today Sunday 25 October: closing time 6:00 p.m./last ticket 4:30 p.m.

 Cafés and bookshop may have different closing days and times than visiting hours**.

Due to the characteristics of the route, people with motor disabilities in wheelchairs can only visit certain points of interest (Terrace of the Immaculate Conception and Church of the Immaculate Conception, exclusively with the assistance of our staff.
Admission is free for them and their companion.

Il Terrazzo Café

Il Terrazzo is located at the highest point of the Castello Aragonese's visitor-accessible area, in a privileged position offering breathtaking panoramic views of the Gulf of Naples, the island of Ischia, and the nearby islands of Capri, Vivara, and Procida.


Beneath a charming pergola, providing welcome shade on warmer days, visitors can enjoy traditional local desserts and ice cream, or take a leisurely lunch break. The bistrot-style menu ranges from light dishes to more refined creations, with particular attention paid to the quality of the ingredients and the care taken in their preparation.


During the colder months, the indoor dining room offers a warm and inviting setting, enhanced by artistic photographs and an intimate atmosphere, making it an ideal place to pause and unwind throughout the year.

La Caffetteria del Monastero

In front of the Church of the Immaculate Conception, it has magnificent terraces with a view overlooking Ischia Ponte. From here, you also have a privileged view of the romantic ruins of the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Assumption, that harmonises with the charm of the Bay of Sant'Anna.

A place that invites you to stop: a garden terrace, with tables set among bougainvillea, broom, jasmine and lantana. And on the sunniest days, there's a pergola with a long stone bench built into the wall and low hand-decorated ceramic coffee tables.

The Café also hosts special events: aperitifs and cocktails are offered during cultural and vernissage events, as well as open-air wedding ceremonies and parties.

Coffee, tea, cappuccino, ice cream, juices and smoothes can be found in the Caffetteria del Monastero, along with tasty salads, pizzas, zingare and desserts made in the kitchen of our restaurant "La cucina del Monastero".

LOSTUDIO

In the splendid spaces of what was first the refectory of the Poor Clares and later the studio of the painter Gabriele Mattera - whose presence is still "felt" in the works on the walls, in the spots of colour on the floor which has been left as it was, in the curtains that were used to shield the powerful natural light - the gallery/bookshop “loStudio" presents the work of artists and artisans (jewellery, ceramics, sculptures, fabrics), personally selected by Anna Cristina Mattera, which stand out due to the quality and originality of their creations.
A unique place on the island for those looking for works of art and objects that still retain the flavour of dexterity and creativity.

In the section dedicated to the bookshop, there's a thoughtful selection of books related to the history of the island and Naples, postcards, photographs and small souvenirs of the Castle, cook books and texts dedicated to regional traditions.

This is also the headquarters of the FONDAZIONE KARIN E GABRIELE MATTERA.

The Foundation has three main objectives: to preserve and promote the work of Gabriele Mattera, to promote contemporary art at the Castle, and to oversee the restoration and study of particularly significant areas of the Aragonese Castle.
It is also a sponsor and partner of cultural events — ranging from cinema to music, architecture to theatre — hosted within the Castle.

Borbonico

Borbonico Art&Shop is housed within a series of historically evocative rooms that were incorporated into the Bourbon Prison complex in 1823.


The spacious hall was restored by Antonio Mattera, son of lawyer Nicola Ernesto Mattera, whose original furniture and writing desk are still preserved within the space. The period furnishings and distinctive architectural features lend the setting an almost museum-like atmosphere, making it an integral part of the visitor experience at the Castello Aragonese.


The idea of opening these historic rooms to the public was conceived by Giovanni Mattera, Antonio’s son, with the aim of enhancing and celebrating the space through an artistic and cultural initiative.


The exhibition area showcases original paintings and artistic creations by Antonio Mattera, while the collection curated by Simona di Paolo includes watercolours, fine art prints, postcards, sketchbooks, and a selection of objects inspired by the Castello Aragonese, the island of Ischia, and the surrounding region. Particular emphasis is placed on quality and originality, with some works available exclusively at Borbonico Art&Shop.
